Work in progress by Paul Goodey (Managing Director CHES Diesel & Marine Services) and Mike Cippitelli (WA State Manager MTU Detroit Diesel Australia). The project is now nearing completion and requires a couple more tests before final full strip down and powder coat frame. When Mike was asked “What made you undertake the project” he replied “You tell me and we’ll both know”.

Engine is Yamaha R1 (1,000cc) with standard exhaust muffler and custom built ceramic coated exhaust header. Six speed constant mesh gearbox with hand clutch and gear change with final drive by chain. Rear axle is live so makes for interesting driving on hard surfaces!!!!!!!!!!! Twin disc brakes on the front wheels and single on the rear axle. We’ve basically used the original Yamaha electrics, with some modifications, and the original radiator and air cleaner. Uprated in line fuel pump replaced the Yamaha unit and is attached to the 22 litre fuel tank by s/s braided hoses.
